Perfect-bound vs. saddle-stitched.
When it comes to brochure design and print, selecting the right binding method is crucial for achieving the desired look and functionality.
Make your presence known in a busy market. From detailed brochures to branded annual reports, the print market isn’t going away any time soon. These are tried and tested measures which have stood the test of time and are still very effective even in this digital age we live in today.
When you receive a brochure you have something in your hands that is tactile and has a smell all of its own, something you just can’t get when you view a PDF on a mobile device, tablet or screen.
Once designed and printed, a quality brochure can be reused over and over again providing it isn’t campaign-specific and doesn’t date. Therefore the actual cost of designing and printing the brochure is relatively small when you consider that this brochure can be the cornerstone of your print marketing for months or even years to come. This makes them perfect for small to medium-sized businesses to add to their marketing collateral.
The most popular options our clients choose are perfect-bound and saddle-stitched brochures. But what’s the difference, and which option is right for your project?
Perfect-bound brochures.
Perfect-bound brochures offer a premium finish, ideal for brochures, magazines, or product catalogues with page counts from 40 to 240. Suitable for high-volume projects with quantities from 50 to 100,000, this binding method is built to last using PUR adhesive for durability.
Perfect binding is ideal for businesses seeking a professional printed brochure. It accommodates heavy paper stocks and custom sizes up to A4. You can select from up to five cover paper choices and eight inner page options to create a brochure that reflects your brand’s quality. Available in A6 (105 x 148mm), A5 (148 x 210mm), and A4 (210 x 297mm) sizes, your design can be further enhanced with luxury finishes such as gloss, matt, or soft-touch laminated covers.
The strength of perfect bound brochures lies in the Polyurethane Reactive (PUR) adhesive, which makes the spine 60% stronger, ensuring your brochure remains intact even with high page volumes and heavy-duty paper.
Saddle-stitched brochures.
If you’re looking for an affordable, high-quality solution with fewer pages, saddle-stitched brochures are the perfect option. Ideal for brochures, magazines, catalogues, and newsletters, this method is suitable for projects with page counts between 8 and 100. It is a cost-effective choice for quantities ranging from 50 to 15,000.
Saddle-stitch binding is a versatile option that makes photographs stand out and is ideal for industries such as hospitality, real estate, and entertainment. Available in A6 (105 x 148mm), A5 (148 x 210mm), A4 (210 x 297mm), or 210mm square, saddle-stitched brochures come with a wide selection of paper stock options, including coated and uncoated materials from 130gsm to 300gsm.
The process involves nesting the pages and securing them with wire through the folded spine, forming staples. For an added touch of quality, you can select a laminated cover in gloss, matt, or soft-touch finishes.
Whether you need a high-end perfect-bound brochure or a cost-effective saddle-stitched option, we offer personalised advice to help you choose the best design and print solution for your business.
Wiro-bound booklets.
With its spiral wire, pages lie flat, making these booklets ideal for instruction manuals, travel diaries, recipe books, and brochures. You can select from an extensive array of paper stocks, sizes, laminations, and wire colours to build your own custom wiro bound booklets.
Wiro binding (wire-o and spiral binding) is achieved when a spiral wire is wrapped around the edge of the pages to bind them together allowing the pages to lay flat or be folded back on themselves. This feature makes wiro bound booklets ideal for business presentations, reports, notebooks and manuals.
Three common hole patterns are used in binding documents with double loop wire and they are 3:1 pitch (3 holes per inch), 2:1 pitch (2 holes per inch) and 19 loop wire. Which one you have will be determined by the number of pages in your document.
You can choose from a large range of papers, sizes, laminations and wire colours to create your custom wiro bound booklets. You can print from 8 to 240 pages and as little as 25 copies. A clear acetate cover is available to give the perfect finishing touch.
If you wanted to create a custom diary or notebook or you wanted a vintage look, you could choose uncoated paper throughout. For a recipe book with vibrant images, gloss would be a better option. If you were after a professional catalogue or product manual for your business you could go for silk paper. Rest assured whatever your wiro bound project is, DL Design has got you covered.
